Deep Brain Stimulation

Deep Brain Stimulation is a treatment for Parkinson's Disease originally but now they found it can help with depression, anxiety,Tourette Syndrome which are disorders in the brain and can be treated with DBS surgery and other methods.

In December 2006 i had DBS surgery done at the mayo clinic which is the worlds largest medical facility and is very well know clinic. I have A DBS for my Tourettes which was very bad for a few years when i couldn't go to school or do much of anything. i had very painful movements and i was afraid to go because i didn't want to get made fun of either.

DBS for Tourette Syndrome is a very new treatment. i was one of the first people to get it it for Tourettes and it works so its documented
at the mayo and in the medical articles and journals of what the mayo is famous for.

the surgery didn't hurt at all. the surgery was nine hours. dbs is when they put these things called leads in to a perfect spot in your brain that they find and they go down in to your brain and then hook to a battery that it implanted in your chest that sends little electric waves into your brain to counter act the original ones. This changes the electricity in your brain and this is what changes your movements. Now that I have had the surgery I feel much better. My body doesn't get as tired out from having Tourette tics all the time. I can concentrate on doing other things. I feel better about going out in public and to school when my movements are under better control.

is it a very interesting surgery to have and learn about. My Doctors were very nice and helpful.
